Every year, OMEA hosts an event for both choir and band that high school music students know as “contest”, in which groups compete against each other by sight reading and performing their three songs. They are professionally critiqued and rated by expert musicians.

The highest rating a group can receive is a 1 and the lowest is a 5. There is a state competition that the highest ranking groups can move onto, but no national competition. Last year, our Chamber Choir got a 1 rating at both their district and state competitions.

The band will be competing on Friday night and the choir will be competing on Saturday morning. District 1’s choir competition will be held in Archbold, Ohio, while the band competition will be held at Sylvania Southview.
