The shutdown occurred on Saturday, January 20 and lasted almost three days until late Monday night. The shutdown was due to a disagreement on a spending bill. After the nearly three day shutdown, the Democratic senators, the main opposers of the bill, agreed to fund the government along with the requirement that children’s health insurance program would be funded for six years. Another requirement was to come to a decision about immigration and put a bill on the floor. This is only a temporary reopen, however. The spending bill will only last until February 8, after that there very well could be another shutdown.
