On Thursday, September 28th, multimillionaire-shooter Stephen Paddock checked into his thirty-second-floor suite at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino packing at least 23 firearms, including but not limited to a handgun, at least 20 rifles; several fitted with scopes, a few AR-15 style assault rifles, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition. According to police, Paddock also has at least 19 guns at his home, as well as thousands of rounds of ammunition and several explosives. On Sunday, October 1st, he turned the Route 91 Harvest Festival into a massacre.

As of now, 58 people are dead in result of the attack, as well as hundreds being injured(New York Times). Right before police had made it to his hotel room, Paddock took his own life. No motive for the attack is currently known, as he did not have much of a social media presence and didn’t have any known ties to any activist or terrorist groups, nor did he seem to have any extremist views of any kind. He also wasn’t close to many people, and the few that were close to him told investigators that they never thought he was capable of committing such a heinous act.

“I knew Stephen Paddock as a kind, caring, quiet man,” Marilou Danley, Paddock’s girlfriend, said in a statement read by her attorney. “He never said anything to me or took any action that I was aware of that I understood in any way to be a warning that something horrible like this was going to happen.”(Washington Post)
