As the month of August draws to a close these are the MLB teams still in the hunt to reach the postseason. Starting with division leaders, who automatically advance to postseason, we visit the National League West Division where the Los Angeles Dodgers hold first place, and also own the best record in Major League Baseball. The Dodgers are a locked playoff team as the next closest team in the division is the Arizona Diamondbacks who are 17 games back in the standings. Next, we visit the National League East where the Washington Nationals led the division with a 15 game lead over division rivals Miami Marlins. Barring any major melt down by the Nationals, they will win the NL East for the second straight year. The National League Central is where things get more interesting as four teams still have legitimate chances to win the division crown and punch their ticket to the postseason. As of today, the defending World Series champs, Chicago Cubs, own the top spot followed by the Milwaukee Brewers who are 3 games out. The St.Louis Cardinals are 6 games behind and the Pittsburgh Pirates are 10 games back, but with more than a month left of baseball, these four teams should make for an exciting finish. In the NL Wild Card currently the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks hold the two Wild Card spots with Colorado holding a four game lead on the Milwaukee Brewers for the second Wild Card spot. In the American League we’ll visit the East Division first where currently the Boston Red Sox hold a 5 ½ game lead over arch rival the New York Yankees. In the Central Division, the World Series runner up, Cleveland Indians lead the division with a 7 game lead over the Minnesota Twins. In the AL West Division the Houston Astros hold a commanding 11 game lead over the Los Angeles Angels.  the New York Yankees and the Minnesota Twins hold the top spots in the American League Wild Card race with the LA Angels one game behind, and with 5 other teams only 3 ½ games or less back from the Wild Card spot the AL Wild Card should also have a wild finish.
