The Liberty Center cross country teams raced at the National Trail Raceway for the 2016 OHSAA State Cross Country Championships on Saturday, November 5. This is the fourth consecutive year that both the boys and girls teams have competed together at the State meet and the eighth consecutive year for the girls. The boys placed 10th as a team and the Lady Tigers placed 19th as a team. Cameron Stark finished his race in 17th place as an All-Ohio runner. Kyle Rauch placed 63rd and Tanner Rauch placed 72nd. For the top three girl finishers, Maddie Atkinson placed 82nd, Emma Babcock placed 118th, and Maddy Roseman finished in 120th.
The State Championships brings an end to another successful season for the Liberty Center cross country program. The girls finished their season with 123 wins and 51 losses. The boys finished their season with 171 wins and only 24 losses. This was the last season for seniors Cheryl Davenport, Katie Clawson, Maddy Roseman, Amanda Barnes, Emma Babcock, Bailey O’Neil, Jakob Hogrefe, Logen McCullough, and Tom McGilvery. Next season the Tigers plan to come back with a reloaded team. The team was young this year and was comprised of mainly freshmen and sophomores that will get faster with experience. Also, the junior high girls team finished state runner-up this season and some will be running on the high school team next year.
